Apple TV set-top box now supports VPN apps, thanks to tvOS 17. This update allows users to install and use a VPN provider that runs natively on the device. One of the VPN providers that has launched its app for Apple TV is ExpressVPN, a leading service in the industry.
You can get ExpressVPN from the App Store, and enjoy its features as part of your existing ExpressVPN subscription.
With ExpressVPN, you can access servers in 105 countries around the world, which lets you change your virtual location and watch content on streaming services that may be restricted by region. The first version of ExpressVPN for Apple TV is simple and functional. You can sign in to your account by scanning a QR code, choose your preferred server using the UI, and start the VPN connection. The company says it will add more features to tvOS over time.
Before tvOS 17, VPN setup was very complicated and usually required running the VPN on the network router. tvOS 17 makes Apple TV compatible with Apple’s other platforms, which enable consumers to run VPNs natively just by downloading an app.
